Dharawal Country – So here we are, back at the super boulder cave of Wedderbun, Sydney.

I’d not really tried this boulder very much during my time here as it always seemed to be somewhat obscure, maybe even a little contrived. Upon chatting to others about it, it did indeed seem rather weird and mentions of possible broken holds as no one could work out the sequence.

So allas during my sessions on “Activate The Hyperdrive” where I could only have 1-2 real good burns, I decided to have a play and see what it’s all about. I also reviewed the FA Video of Byron & found that no holds where in fact broken, but rather this line is just really technical & hard!

This boulder defines the third style of the cave similar to ‘Baby Bonus’ & unlike Rodeo Clown & Major Lightweight it does not have any span dependant moves which indeed can make things much easier or dramatically harder depending on ones wingspan.

The moves are all pretty close together, the holds are small and facing weird directions, keeping tension is key as well as keeping your rear end off the deck! No sneaky or useful knee bars are present which gives way to some very continues and strenuous climbing.

It took me several sessions to work out a sequence that was even feasible, then a couple more to dial and link the moves before the send & possibly the 2nd ascent.

Upon reflection, for me the difficulty of this boulder sits well in line with Persistence V12 & is one of the harder individual lines at the cave with tricky and odd moves, very much radical fun!

Stay tuned..
